Quick Overview

Main city piers: Nybroplan/Nybrokajen (Strandvägen), Strömkajen (Grand Hôtel), Skeppsbron (Gamla stan), Klara Mälarstrand/Stadshusbron (City Hall), and Slussen (for ferries). Fastest hub: Stockholm Central Station (T-Centralen) — walk 10–15 min to City Hall piers or ride the metro 1–2 stops to Kungsträdgården (Strömkajen) or Östermalmstorg (Nybroplan).

Best for Archipelago & City Views

Strömkajen (near Kungsträdgården) and Nybroplan/Strandvägen — many classic sightseeing and island departures.

Best for City Hall & Lake Mälaren

Klara Mälarstrand/Stadshusbron — ideal for cruises by the City Hall and Mälaren routes.

Option 1 — From Stockholm Central (T-Centralen)

Perfect if you’re arriving by Arlanda Express, commuter trains, or intercity buses at Cityterminalen.

  • Walk to City Hall piers: 10–12 minutes via Klarabergsviadukten → Stadshusbron (Klara Mälarstrand).
  • Metro (1 stop): Blue line to Kungsträdgården → 5–7 min walk to Strömkajen.
  • Metro (2 stops): Red line to Östermalmstorg → 6–8 min walk to Nybroplan/Strandvägen.
  • Tram 7: From Sergels torg/Kungsträdgården to Nybroplan and Djurgården piers.

Tip

Use SL card/contactless. Metro lines are color-coded (Blue/Red/Green). Ferries to Djurgården run from Slussen.

Option 2 — Metro/Tram to Popular Piers

Nybroplan / Strandvägen

Metro Östermalmstorg (Red). Tram 7 to Nybroplan. Short walk to boats along Strandvägen.

Strömkajen (Grand Hôtel)

Metro Kungsträdgården (Blue). Walk 5–7 minutes towards the waterfront opposite the Royal Palace.

Skeppsbron (Gamla stan)

Metro Gamla stan (Green/Red). 6–8 minute walk along the east quay beside the Old Town.

City Hall / Klara Mälarstrand

Walk from T-Centralen 10–12 minutes or metro Rådhuset (Blue) then 8–10 minutes on foot.

Tickets & Passes

Single, 24-hour, or 72-hour SL tickets work on metro, buses, trams and most inner-city ferries (check product notes).

Option 3 — Buses & Scenic Walks

Central buses and tram 7 connect Sergels torg, Kungsträdgården, Strandvägen and Djurgården. In good weather, walking gives the best views across the palace and waterfront.

  • T-Centralen → City Hall piers: 10–12 minutes on foot via Klarabergsgatan & Stadshusbron.
  • Kungsträdgården → Strömkajen: 5–7 minutes along the park to the Grand Hôtel waterfront.
  • Östermalmstorg → Nybroplan: 6–8 minutes down Birger Jarlsgatan to Strandvägen.

Flygbussarna to Cityterminalen (~20–25 min), then short metro/walk to central waterfront piers.

Use lockers at Stockholm Central. Space onboard boats is limited—avoid large bags.

Seasonality

Peak schedules May–Sep; winter cruises run fewer times with heated indoor seating—check timetables ahead.

Driving, Parking & Bikes

City Driving

Central parking is limited and paid. Use garages near Norrmalm or Östermalm, or park-&-ride + metro.

Bike to the Pier

Stockholm is bike-friendly; racks line Strandvägen and near City Hall. Some boats restrict bikes—check first.

Accessibility

Many operators provide ramp access, but gangway angles vary with water levels—confirm your sailing in advance.

Families

Strollers are usually fine; keep aisles clear. Restroom availability varies by vessel size.
